"A DAY LATE IN OAKLAND" by Zachary Stauffer examines the connection between the murder of Oakland Post Editor Chauncey Bailey and its connection to his investigative reporting on the operations of Oakland's Your Black Muslim Bakery. "CHEESE WARS" by Taylor Pipes informs us about the competition between California and Wisconsin cheese producers, and the race for dominance in the all-important cheese production industry. "AMERICAN/SANDINISTA" by Jason Blalock reveals the story of a small group of young American engineers who travelled to Nicaragua during the 1980s at the time of civil war between the Sandinistas and Contras, providing their skills and labor to a revolutionary cause - and paying the ultimate price for their idealism. Her voice is soft and plaintive, her words a slurry of apologies."Illusion..." shows what happens when a woman who has been a homeless alcoholic for many years returns to the children she had abandoned. Unable to hide from her past she is forced to contemplate the wounded life and its wake of wreckage. "Illusion..." explores uncharted territories in the margins around us every day, in every city, in a 'direct cinema' documentary where the filmmaker himself is caught in the vortex of other people's nightmares. (7:00pm) "FAIRFAX DOC FEST CHALLENGE 2009" a preview of the entries to this year's competition. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - SUNDAY APRIL 5TH 2 pm, 7pm, tickets $10 "DANCING WITH GAIA" by Fairfax filmmaker Jo Carson takes us throughout Europe, the Mediterranean and the US, where she filmed sacred sites of ancient earth-centered religions and interviewed fifteen visionaries who explain how to release the constrictions that keep us from experiencing the earth as part of our own body, and give us tools to begin personally feeling the life of the planet. (2:00pm) - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - "SCREENING AND RESULTS OF THE FAIRFAX DOC FEST CHALLENGE 2009" Filmmakers of all levels of experience took the challenge to make a 4 minute documentary about Fairfax in 48 hours. After the screening and awards, a panel of professional filmmaker judges will speak about getting started on a film career.
